Scholarship

The WVIS has been awarding scholarships to deserving Wenham residents seeking higher education since 1951.  The Scholarship fund is financed from WVIS income and helped by memorial gifts and donations.  Since the program's inception, the WVIS has awarded over $700,000. 

In 2025, five scholarships of $2,000 each were awarded to students who best demonstrated their enthusiasm for the Town of Wenham and either their educational goals or community service. Recipients were: Jack Creilson, Benjamin Mark, Olivia Stanley, Aiden Holloran and Alex Moldovean. Congratulations!

Anne & Harriot Mandell Scholarship- Our scholarship program started in 1951 after the tragic death of sisters Anne & Harriot Mandell.

H. Adeline Wilkins Scholarship- Adeline was our first President.

Harriet C. Burnham Scholarship- Harriet was our President for 36 years!

Susan Lillie Scholarship - Susan was a dedicated volunteer and heavily involved in the Tea House Park Program.

Betty Johnson Scholarship - Betty was a dedicated volunteer, previous President and brought fresh bouquets to the Tea House daily.

Applicants are asked to submit essays.

Essay #1: Write about a favorite location in the Town of Wenham. What makes it your favorite? What significance does this location play in building the community?

Essay #2: Answer JUST ONE of the questions below.

  • Describe a community service experience you organized or helped lead. The project should have been completed in the last 2 years. Describe your role, the group served, and what you learned from the project.

  • Describe your educational goals. What do you wish to study and why?
